Children will be set Phonics homework. Children are expected to read daily and learn their key words and sounds at home.
In Key Stages 1 and 2 children will be set weekly Times Tables (Number bonds for Year 1) and My Maths homework. They are expected to read daily at home.
Interactive Homework (Reception - Year 6)
The children will have a range of tasks to choose from, completing at least three activities over each term. The crucial aspect of this homework is the interaction between school and parents in engaging children in their learning. Whilst we don't want parents to 'do' their child's homework, we welcome your interaction and would love to read your comments in their book or hear about them first hand. Tasks are designed to appeal to different abilities and interests and allow the children to apply the skills they have learnt in school and at home. We actively encourage the children to choose to present their work in an imaginative manner. We expect the children to take pride in their homework, presenting any written work neatly.
Occasionally, a teacher may send home 'ad-hoc' tasks. This may happen more frequently for Years 2 and 6 in the run up to SATS.
Following feedback from our Parent Forum, the frequency of interactive homework tasks has been reviewed and reduced from four tasks to three.
Traditionally this is probably the most tested but least taught area of the curriculum with children learning lists of words for a weekly test. However, despite often scoring full marks in tests, the same words are often mis-spelt within a piece of writing. Therefore, children in Years 1 - 6 will have a spelling task to complete every fortnight. These tasks will focus on learning and applying spelling strategies rather than learning a list of words.
