Our homework model has changed.
Children will be set Phonics homework. Children are expected to read daily and learn their key words and sounds at home.
In Key Stages 1 and 2 children will be set weekly Times Tables (Number bonds for Year 1) and My Maths homework. They are expected to read daily at home.
Interactive Homework (Nursery - Year 6)
The children will have a range of tasks to choose from, completing at least four activities over each term. The crucial aspect of this homework is the interaction between school and parents in engaging children in their learning. Whilst we don't want parents to 'do' their child's homework, we welcome your interaction and would love to read your comments in their book or hear about them first hand. Tasks are designed to appeal to different abilities and interests and allow the children to apply the skills they have learnt in school and at home. We actively encourage the children to choose to present their work in an imaginative manner. We expect the children to take pride in their homework, presenting any written work neatly.
Occasionally, a teacher may send home 'ad-hoc' tasks. This may happen more frequently for Years 2 and 6 in the run up to SATS.
Following feedback from our Parent Forum, the frequency of interactive homework tasks will be reviewed this term with any changes in place from January 2018.
Spelling - new for 2017
Traditionally, children have brought home lists of spellings to learn and be tested on. However, despite often scoring full marks in tests, the same words are often mis-spelt within a piece of writing. Therefore, children in Years 1 - 6 will have a spelling task to complete every fortnight. These tasks will focus on learning and applying spelling strategies rather than learning a list of words.
